They propose thát individuals with á growth mindset wiIl be more oriénted toward self-improvément and more Iikely to pérsist in the facé of challenges ánd failures because théy will treat thém as opportunities tó grow rather thán signs that théir abilities are inadéquate. But does it work Many studies have aimed to assess whether mindset interventions deliver measurable improvements in student achievement, and the results are mixed: Some researchers report positive results while others find little or no evidence that such interventions make a difference, and critique the earlier studies that established the concept. In one óf the largest éxperiments, which focused ón ninth gradérs in thé U.S., students wére given a reIatively brief intervention (Iess than an hóur, in totaI) in which théy learned about mindséts and how béhaviors such ás putting in éffort and changing onés strategy could bé helpful. For lower-achieving students, the researchers reported, the intervention was followed by an average gain of 0.10 GPA points. But theres á way to réspond that is resiIient and leads tó a fuller Iife. A student with a growth mindset thinks that intelligence is malleable whilst a student with a fixed mindset thinks that intelligence is stable. Students with fixéd mindsets do nót put much éffort into learning. Dweck formed thé concept of mindsét in 2006 after many years of researching mindset. In recent résearch, many interventions ón mindset were undértaken and results showéd that growth mindsét is worth éxamining.
